I love it when my dreams demand that I pick up pencils and colors. I made this sketch from a mysterious dream in which renowned European magicians have come to a kampong - a village on the water, often with stilt houses - in Malaysia. I dreamed again last night of occult activities in a kampong. This time I was engaged with scholarly occultists in editing and publishing a hitherto unknown Hermetic text about how divine knowledge becomes available to humans. Beyond drawing from these dreams, it seems I am being drawn into them. For now, i will simply indulge myself by posting the picture I made from my original kampong dream in the spring with my raw journal report. April 25, 2016DreamNight Thieves Come to the KampongI am with a community in what looks and feels like a Malaysian kampong, with houses on stilts over water and rice fields., very lush and green. The feeling is of an earlier time, of British colonial administration. I may be in the role of a government anthropologist. It has been agreed with village elders that two powerful magicians from Europe will come to visit. They are both Night Thieves. They are not bad, but they are dangerous. One of them, also called the Twilight Warrior, is a master of half-dream states in which he can operate in two or more places at the same time. He can carry on activities in physical reality while sending a second self in an energy body visible and palpable to others, to perform missions at a distance. He may be fully present in awareness in both bodies at the same time. He can do more. On occasion his traveling self will bifurcate producing one or more additional doppelgangers. He once produced three this way to fight off attackers.Feelings: excitement!Reality: I was in Malaysia a long time ago and family members were colonial administrators there. I have studied Orang Asli culture and Temiar-Senoi dream practices.I have heard of feats like those of the Twilight Warrior and have practiced bilocation and the projection of dream doubles. My main association is with a verse from Rumi that I rediscovered the night before this dream:Use night to wake your clarity.Darkness and the living water are lovers.Let them stay up together. When merchants eat their big meals and sleeptheir dead sleep, we night-thieves go to work['What Hurts the Soul' from Rumi'sMathnawi('Spirtual Couplets',Masnaviin Persian), adapted from R.A. Nicholson translation by Coleman Barks]After savoring these lines, I lay down wanting to see how Rumi's 'night-thieves' go to work. I guess I did.
