Apple is reportedly partnering with LG to develop a new range of smart home devices as the technology giant expands its presence in the connected-home market. According to Bloomberg, the companies are working on several products, including a smart lock, thermostat and doorbell, designed to work with Apple's upcoming smart home hub. New devices to work with Apple hub Apple's smart home hub is expected to be unveiled on October 13 and could feature a 6-inch square display that users can place on a countertop or mount on a wall. The upcoming LG-branded devices are reportedly being developed jointly by Apple and LG and are expected to be announced, if not formally launched, next week. The companies are also said to be working on a range of security cameras, including indoor and outdoor models as well as a floodlight camera. Interestingly, the products are expected to carry the LG brand despite reportedly being co-developed by the two companies. Apple expands smart home ambitions The reported partnership would mark another step in Apple's efforts to expand its hardware ecosystem beyond its traditional products such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac. The new devices could also put Apple in more direct competition with Amazon's established smart home business, which includes products such as Ring security cameras and other connected-home devices. Apple has increasingly been exploring the smart home market, with reports pointing to a broader strategy built around a central home hub and connected accessories. Apple has not yet publicly confirmed the reported partnership or the upcoming devices.
