Champion, N.Y. — A Northern New York man walking in the road was hit by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday, state police said. Around 4:24 a.m., police got a report that a vehicle hit a person on Route 126 in the town of Champion in Jefferson County. A 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Jeramie J. Palladino, 53, of Carthage was eastbound when she hit the pedestrian, according to Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a police spokesperson. The pedestrian, a 45-year-old man from Watertown, was believed to have been on the road, wearing dark clothing and also heading east, she said. He was pronounced dead soon after the collision, Jiron said. Troopers did not identify the man.
