Mohmand - WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Saeed on Thursday visited the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project on the River Swat in Mohmand district and reviewed progress on major components, including the main dam and powerhouse. WAPDA Member (Water) Asim Rauf accompanied him during the visit. The chairman inspected construction activities at key project sites and directed the project team, consultants and contractors to accelerate work while adhering to technical specifications and quality standards and ensuring timely completion. He said completion of the project on schedule was critical to the country's long-term development, economic growth and stability. Earlier, he chaired a progress review meeting at the project office attended by representatives of the Board of Management, the Mohmand Dam Consulting Group and contractors. A multipurpose project, Mohmand Dam will have a gross water storage capacity of 1.29 million acre-feet (MAF), primarily for irrigation, and help mitigate flooding in Charsadda, Mardan and Nowshera. Kundi stresses disaster training for KP youth as 3,000 scouts target set The project is also designed to supply 300 million gallons of drinking water daily to Peshawar and generate 800 megawatts of electricity. According to WAPDA, it will produce about 2.86 billion units of hydel electricity annually for the national grid. Tags:
