Quick Read Tom Lee chairs Bitmine (BMNR), holder of 3.73 million ETH, making his $6,000 Ethereum target a commercially motivated call worth scrutinizing. Lee's $6,000 ETH target requires Bitcoin hitting $150,000 by December, but BTC currently trades near $79,231, which is less than halfway to that goal. If Bitcoin fails to reclaim six figures by late October 2026, Lee's $6,000 Ethereum target is effectively dead for this year. Just released. Our analysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Bitmine Immersion Technologies didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat BMNR. Tom Lee said Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) could reach $6,000 by December, but the arithmetic behind that call depends on Bitcoin nearly doubling first. Bitcoin trades near $78,600 and Ethereum near $2,490, meaning both targets sit far above where the two assets stand right now. Tom Lee's target depends on Bitcoin reaching $150,000 in the same window and the Ethereum-to-Bitcoin ratio rising from about 0.03 to 0.04. Could Lee's arithmetic check out before the end of the year, and can Bitcoin climb to $150,000 in the next four months? Why Does Tom Lee Think Ethereum Can Reach $6,000 by December? Speaking on the Milk Road Show, Fundstrat co-founder and BitMine Immersion Technologies chairman Tom Lee said Ethereum would trade near $6,000 if Bitcoin reaches $150,000 and the ETH/BTC ratio climbs to 0.04, up from about 0.03 today. Lee's argument starts with the ETH/BTC ratio, the exchange rate between the two tokens rather than either one's dollar price. That ratio runs near 0.03 today, down from nearly 0.08 at the 2021 cycle peak. Lee believes Ethereum has fallen far behind Bitcoin relative to where it traded during past bull markets, and he expects the ratio to recover to 0.04 by year-end, which he called a conservative estimate given how much higher it climbed in 2021. The CLARITY Act, the bill that would classify digital assets like Ethereum under CFTC oversight, faces a Senate cloture vote on September 15, and Lee expects passage would accelerate institutional demand. He also cited short positions and sidelined capital returning to crypto once the four-year Bitcoin halving cycle clears in October, capital reallocating out of Asia into digital assets, and institutional investors chasing performance into year-end if Ethereum keeps outperforming other assets. Ethereum has gained 54% since June 30, well ahead of gold's 13% and typical stock returns over the same stretch, making it one of the best-performing major assets. Spot Ethereum ETFs also recorded $824.42 million in net inflows over one week in late August, according to SoSoValue, with BlackRock's ETHA fund alone pulling in $83.79 million in a single day. BitMine, the company Lee chairs, holds more than $14 billion in Ethereum and has said it wants to own 5% of the network's total token supply, giving Lee a direct stake in the outcome he is describing. What Would Bitcoin Need to Do for Ethereum to Reach $6,000? Bitcoin reaching $150,000 in 4 months requires roughly a 91% gain from its current price of $78,600, a pace Bitcoin has only managed across a full year before but rarely within a single quarter. Bitcoin would also need to beat its previous record of $126,198, set in October 2025, by around 19%. Even if Bitcoin reaches $150,000, Ethereum would reach only $6,000 if the ETH/BTC ratio also climbs from about 0.03 to 0.04, a jump of roughly a third in Ethereum's relative value. That means Ethereum needs to rise faster than Bitcoin. So if Bitcoin reaches $150,000 but the ratio holds at 0.03, Ethereum would trade near $4,500, a strong year but well short of Lee's target. Both moves depend on the same catalyst doing a lot of work. A CLARITY Act passage would need to pull in enough new institutional buying to lift Bitcoin toward a fresh record while pushing Ethereum higher at an even steeper rate, since ETFs, corporate treasuries, and Asian capital would all need to favor Ethereum's relative upside over Bitcoin's during the same window. Can Ethereum Really Reach $6,000 by December? While the framework and reasoning behind Tom Lee's $6000 target is reasonable, we think $6,000 is unlikely by December. Bitcoin would have to gain roughly 91% in about four months to reach $150,000, and Ethereum would rise by about 141% from today's price near $2,490 while the ETH/BTC ratio rises faster than Bitcoin's own price. By stacking two large, uncertain moves into the same four-month window, Tom Lee leaves much less room for error than either move happening on its own. Our view would change if the CLARITY Act clears its September 15 cloture vote and Bitcoin breaks through $126,198 within the following weeks, since a fresh record that fast would show the scale of institutional demand Lee's scenario depends on. However, a Bitcoin price still under $80,000 in mid-September leaves little room left in the calendar for a run to $150,000, and $6,000 Ethereum looks more like a year-end bull case than a realistic December target.
