Pakistan face a huge challenge to survive the first Test against England after being bowled out for 171 and losing one wicket for seven runs in their second innings at Headingley, Leeds. England made 409 in their first innings, giving them a lead of 238 runs. Ali Usman claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket, but England's batting proved too strong. Pakistan's first innings began badly as Azan Awais was dismissed for a first-ball duck. Shan Masood fell for five before Imam-ul-Haq made 42 and Abdullah Shafique scored 61. England's Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue took five wickets each as Pakistan were bowled out for 171 in 48.1 overs. England then built a strong total. Jordan Cox scored 73, Joe Root made 66, Harry Brook hit 91 and Dan Lawrence scored 51. Ali Usman took five wickets, while Khurram Shahzad claimed three. Pakistan's second innings began with another setback. Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for a duck by Jofra Archer in the second over. Shan Masood hit a boundary before the close, with Azan Awais unbeaten on three and Pakistan on 7-1 after three overs. Pakistan now face an uphill battle to avoid going back to square one in the Test, with England holding a 231-run lead.
