The Cowboys are going to be missing a starting offensive lineman for the first chunk of the regular season. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters at a Monday press conference that left guard Tyler Smith is going to have thumb surgery. Smith is expected to miss 4-6 weeks as a result of the operation. Smith is set to go on injured reserve, so the Cowboys will be able to replace him on the active roster. They open the season against the Giants on Sunday night and then face the Commanders, Ravens, Texans, Buccaneers, and Packers in the first six weeks of the season. TJ Bass is set to fill in at left guard until Smith is able to return to action.
