KRRiT's Surprising Statement. Sakiewicz Responds: 'Go Outside and See for Yourself'

On Saturday evening, false reports appeared in some media outlets claiming that the Marshal of the Lublin Voivodeship had been detained in connection with the Zondacrypto scandal. Although the story was quickly exposed as 'fake news,' things apparently looked quite different in the Gazeta.pl newsroom. According to an article published on the website, reports of the marshal's detention had supposedly been… confirmed by prosecutors. Yesterday, Telewizja Republika carried out an unprecedented fundraising campaign. Following an appeal by Miłosz Kłeczek, viewers raised a huge sum within just nine hours to cover the broadcaster's licence fee. According to figures released by the station, around 30,000 people donated a total of PLN 2 million. Today, three transfers were made to the account of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT): PLN 1,785,216.10 for the broadcasting licence; PLN 258,502 as a deferral fee; PLN 3,595 in interest. Proof of the payments was delivered to KRRiT and… posted on the entrance doors to the Council's headquarters by Tomasz Sakiewicz, Michał Rachoń and Jarosław Olechowski. Quite unexpectedly, however, KRRiT spokeswoman Anna Ostrowska announced that Telewizja Republika had paid the PLN 1,785,216 licence fee but… had still not settled the interest due. Telewizja Republika CEO Tomasz Sakiewicz firmly denied the claim. 'The KRRiT spokeswoman claims that we only paid for the licence. We made three transfers: the licence fee, the deferral fee, which is simply the statutory component of the interest, and additional interest for the late payment.
