Nino Schurter breaks arm in scooter accident

'Retirement turns out to be dangerous,' Nino Schurter wrote upon revealing the news that he dislocated his shoulder and broke his arm in a scooter accident. The retired Olympic Champion was on a family outing in the mountains when he crashed riding a mountain scooter downhill. A helicopter took him to the hospital after he 'experienced a level of pain I never knew existed.' 'I'm incredibly grateful it wasn't worse, and I want to send a massive thank you to my loved ones, the rescue team, and the doctors for taking such amazing care of me,' Schurter wrote on social media. 'I was able to leave the hospital late last night, but I'll be out of action for a few weeks while this heals.' Professional mountain biker Yana Belomoina shared on social media that her brother has been killed fighting in the Russia-Ukraine War. Belomoina is a 4x Olympian for Ukraine and most recently competed at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole, where she finished 40th in the XCO. The circuitous route starts in town and finishes just a few miles to the north at the bottom of a ski run, taking in 10,000 feet of climbing and copious amounts of singletrack along the way. In the women's race, Bolton finished about 15 minutes ahead of Leah van Der Linden, with Ingrid Stensvaag taking third place. Calton beat out KiwiMatthew Wilsonby 8 minutes and Jacob Allen finished third. On the other side of the country, Cam Jones and Maia Paris took victories at the Shenandoah Mountain 100, part of the National Ultra Endurance series. Jones beat Maxwell Abner by nearly 30 minutes, while Patrick Collins placed third in the pro men's race. In the pro women's race, Maia Paris of New Jersey won with a nearly 20 minute margin over Nell Rose Steed with Jennifer Klecak placing third. Crankworx headed to Quebec and raced downhill on the legendary downhill course at Mont-Sainte-Anne, which is not included in the World Cup circuit this season. It was Mille Johnset who won the women's race, a whopping 14 second over Taylor Ostgaard, with Isla O'Connor in third.
