Andrew Garfield is in the midst of another exciting year of releases, with eight new movies having come to theaters in the last six years. Along with a couple of massive appearances as Spider-Man for Sony and Marvel, he also starred alongside Florence Pugh in 2024's We Live in Time and earned rave reviews for his acting and singing performance in the hit 2021 movie Tick, Tick...Boom! in 2021, under the direction of Moana and Hamilton songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda. Now, he has a big year ahead of him in 2026, including a new movie based on real-world events. In a few weeks, Garfield will be back on the big screen under director Luca Guadagnino in the upcoming movie, Artificial, in which he stars as Sam Altman. The biographical drama centers on Altman's work in creating ChatGPT, a powerful but controversial real-world technological tool that represents the biggest step forward yet in bringing artificial intelligence into daily life. Set in Nov. 2023, the movie will feature a major power struggle for Altman and his company, as he is fired and has to work his way back into the fold to see his vision through. Now, a new look into this movie highlights some of the drama that will unfold on screen. Neon released the first official teaser trailer for Luca Guadagnino's new movie, Artificial, which will debut at the New York Film Festival in Oct. 2026 and in theaters across the United States on Dec. 25, 2026. With the dialogue discussing how the "future is inevitable," Garfield is shown walking into a giant mansion, as the voice-over teases that the world is about to change with the introduction of ChatGPT. Garfield's Sam Altman cannot hold back his excitement to see what will happen with this technology, setting up a wild new age for this alternate-reality version of the real world. Alongside Garfield, this movie will also star Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever (the co-founder of OpenAI), Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati (OpenAI's CTO), Cooper Hoffman as Greg Brockman (OpenAI's board chairman), and Ike Barinholt as Elon Musk (OpenAI's co-founder). Considering the impact ChatGPT has on the world these days (both positive and negative), this movie will hit home hard for countless viewers, many who struggle with the morals of using this technology to help with everyday tasks as AI becomes more prevalent in the world. Artificial will debut at the New York Film Festival on Oct. 5, 2026, before arriving in domestic theaters on Dec. 25, 2026.
