The Punjab government has decided to make the system for private housing schemes more efficient and transparent by approving major changes to housing rules, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday. According to the report, amendments have been approved to the Punjab Development Authority Private Housing Schemes Rules 2021, while changes have also been approved to the PHATA Affordable Private Housing Scheme Rules 2020. The government said the changes were aimed at speeding up the approval and development of housing schemes and reducing unnecessary delays in the implementation of projects. The reforms are also intended to make it easier for the private sector to take part in the housing sector and support the development of new residential projects. Changes to the PHATA rules have been approved to promote affordable housing and improve access to reasonably priced homes. The government said the regulatory system for private housing schemes would be brought in line with modern requirements through the reforms. The new measures are expected to reduce unnecessary barriers and speed up work on housing projects while improving planning and regulation. Greater transparency in private housing schemes will also be a key focus of the reforms, with the government aiming to improve planning and ensure more effective oversight. Officials said the changes would help create a more suitable environment for investment in the housing sector and encourage the development of private residential projects. The government said the overall purpose of the amendments was to make the system for private housing schemes and affordable housing more effective, transparent, and responsive to current needs.
