George Lucas Has Officially Moved On From Disney's Star Wars Era

It's been fourteen years since George Lucas washed his hands of Lucasfilm and Star Wars, handing over the keys to the kingdom to, well, the Magic Kingdom and to a new generation of filmmakers. Since then, a whole host of new characters have been added to the lore, like Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe Dameron, Din Djarin, Cassian Andor, and dozens of other. Whether we'd call any of them iconic at this point is another debate entirely, as far as Lucas is concerned, his newest project wants almost nothing to do with any of what came after him. The new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art features only one major Star Wars character introduced following Disney's 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm: Grogu from The Mandalorian. The character appears alongside Yoda in Lawrence Noble's The Introduction, one of the monumental sculptures installed around the museum's Los Angeles campus. It's a very notable contrast with the extensive representation given to the original and prequel trilogies. Featured in the museum are the likes of Princess Leia killing Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi and Padmé Amidala fighting the Nexu during the Geonosis arena sequence in Attack of the Clones. Grogu himself wasn't created by Lucas, having made his debut in The Mandalorian seven years after the filmmaker sold Lucasfilm, but Lucas was nevertheless consulted about the character during the show's development, with Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni previously recalling that Lucas was particularly concerned that the young Force-user receive an appropriate amount of training.
