Name: David Pelgrims Age: Not provided Ward: 1, 2, 3 I believe education is the most important investment we can make in our youth and communities. I grew up on my family's flue-cured tobacco farm, graduated from John McGregor secondary school, and earned an associate degree in agriculture from the University of Guelph, (Guelph campus). I understand first-hand how education can open doors and create opportunities. At this stage in my life, I have more time to give back and want to use my experience to contribute to the future of our students, families, and communities. I have been following provincial education legislation, including the Putting Student Achievement First Act, which strengthens provincial oversight of school board budgets and also focuses on standardized classroom and curriculum standards. These changes may limit the role of trustees and local decision-making. I believe trustees need a meaningful voice because local communities understand their students and their unique needs. Declining enrolment and the possibility of school closures, particularly in rural communities, are also important concerns. Change may be inevitable, but decisions must be based on a holistic, long-term plan that considers demographics, transportation, community impact, and, most importantly what is best for students. Tough decisions should not be made piecemeal; they should be part of a thoughtful plan for the future. My extensive experience in the agricultural and industrial sectors, along with owning my own company, provides a strong business background, practical decision-making skills, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. I am comfortable looking at issues from different perspectives and consider long-term impacts in working toward practical solutions. While serving as a (Lambton Kent District School Board) trustee would be a new experience, I bring a willingness to listen, learn, and work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for students and their communities.
