Montgomery Township appoints Shannon Drosnock interim manager

Montgomery Township has appointed longtime employee Shannon Drosnock as interim township manager as officials search for a permanent successor to Carolyn McCreary. McCreary, who has served as township manager for seven years, announced her resignation during the Aug. 26 Board of Supervisors meeting. Her final day will be Oct. 9. Drosnock has worked for Montgomery Township for 15 years and previously served as finance director. She currently serves as executive director of the Montgomery Township Municipal Sewer Authority. As interim manager, Drosnock will oversee the township's daily operations and work with supervisors and employees to maintain municipal services and programs during the transition. 'Montgomery Township is such a part of me both personally and professionally,' Drosnock said in a news release. 'I have resided here for 17 years and raised my children here.' Drosnock said she spent years with her family at Windlestrae, Spring Valley and Whistlestop parks and has spent nearly all of her local-government career working for the township. 'Montgomery is in my bones, and it is very meaningful to me that I can be of service to bridge the transition to its next manager,' she said. Drosnock credited McCreary and the board with maintaining a forward-looking approach to government. She said transparency, leadership, respect and data-based analysis are central to effective municipal operations. 'I am proud to be a part of this Township and this community,' Drosnock said. 'I look forward to working with the Township Board, staff, residents and business members to guide the team during this time as it prepares for new leadership.' McCreary began serving as manager in January 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. She said navigating that crisis helped township employees develop a level of trust and cooperation that later supported projects such as hosting The Wall That Heals in 2025. McCreary also cited park improvements, updated traffic signals, increased social media engagement and behind-the-scenes operational efficiencies among the accomplishments of her tenure. She is leaving Montgomery Township to pursue another professional opportunity. The Board of Supervisors has begun searching for a permanent manager. Chairwoman Tanya Bamford said the board intends to conduct a deliberate search for an experienced municipal leader who can build upon the township's existing strengths. 'Shannon's willingness to serve as Interim Manager gives us the continuity and stability we need to take the time necessary to find the right Township Manager to lead Montgomery Township forward,' Bamford said, in a news release. Bamford cited Drosnock's executive experience, institutional knowledge and leadership roles with the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association and other professional organizations. 'Most importantly for this transition, Shannon knows our organization, our staff and our community,' Bamford said. The township will release additional information about the permanent-manager search as it becomes available.
