Four polio workers abducted in KP's Tank district

The workers were reportedly intercepted while travelling for vaccination duties in the district. PESHAWAR: Four polio vaccination workers were abducted by unidentified armed men in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Tank district while taking part in an immunisation campaign. The workers were reportedly intercepted while travelling for vaccination duties in the district. Police and security personnel launched a search operation after receiving information about the abduction. Authorities were working to trace the workers and identify those responsible. The incident comes as polio teams continue vaccination drives in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under heightened security because of repeated threats against health workers. Pakistan remains one of the few countries where poliovirus transmission continues, making repeated immunisation campaigns necessary to reach children in high-risk areas. Attacks and abductions targeting vaccination teams have repeatedly disrupted anti-polio efforts, particularly in parts of KP and Balochistan. Security has been tightened in the area following the latest incident, while efforts to recover the abducted workers are under way.
