Greenville City Council to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed 2026-27 Budget

GREENVILLE, Miss. — The Greenville City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on the city's proposed budget and tax levies for fiscal year 2026-27. The hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Greenville City Hall. According to a notice issued by the city, Greenville is currently operating with projected total budget revenue of $69,709,706, including $17.25 million generated through ad valorem taxes. For the upcoming fiscal year, the proposed budget also projects total revenue of $69,709,706, with $17,871,674 proposed to be financed through ad valorem taxes. The city said it does not plan to increase the ad valorem tax millage rate for fiscal year 2026-27 above the current fiscal year's rate. The notice states that the decision not to increase the millage rate means residents will not pay more in ad valorem taxes on their homes, automobile tags, utilities, business fixtures and equipment or rental real property unless the assessed value of their property has increased. Greenville residents are invited to attend the public hearing and will be allowed a reasonable amount of time to speak about the proposed budget and tax levies. Residents may also present tangible evidence before the council takes a vote. Mayor Errick D. Simmons signed the notice dated Sept. 7, 2026. City Clerk Brenda Young attested to the notice.
