Cincinnati Zoo mourns Reggie, cockatoo star of bird show for 45 years

SOURCE: Lisa Hubbard | Cincinnati Zoo CINCINNATI — Reggie, an Eleonora cockatoo who performed in the Cincinnati Zoo's bird show for 45 years, has died. Known for his signature "hello," his tricks of hanging upside down, and waving goodbye, Reggie entertained audiences in more than 6,000 shows since the zoo began hosting them in 1981. A recent health exam revealed that Reggie had an inoperable mass that prevented him from swallowing food. The zoo staff said their goodbyes to him last week. "Reggie is an inspiration to us all that animals can be resilient and through training and trying new things, behavioral challenges can be overcome. After 45 years and 6,000 shows, there will never be a bird like Reggie. There is now a gap in the show but an even bigger hole in our hearts.
