Displaced Lewis County students return to in-person class after floods close school

LEWIS COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) – A Lewis County education center has opened its doors to area students whose school was closed due to the July floods. West Virginia University announced Tuesday that WVU Jackson's Mill has now welcomed Robert L. Bland Middle School students after the floods made it unsafe to reopen their school for in-person learning. In August, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey announced advanced funding to help Lewis County middle school students get back in the classroom for the new school year. These students returned to the classroom in a nontraditional setting at WVU Jackson's Mill beginning Sept. 8 for the 2026-2027 school year through a partnership between Lewis County Schools, WVU and the WVU Extension. According to WVU, more than 400 Lewis County students were to attend Robert L. Bland Middle School in Weston this school year. For more news from across the Tri-State, click here.
