Coroner identifies man who died after being shot during gunfire exchange with deputies

AMMON — The coroner's office has identified the man who died during a gunfire exchange with deputies on Friday. Bonneville County Coroner Shante Sanchez says the person is 43-year-old Marcus Griffin of Idaho Falls. According to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home on Badger Creek Road around 6 a.m., after Griffin reportedly told dispatchers he was armed and going to kill himself. RELATED | Man dead in early morning shooting with Bonneville County deputies When deputies arrived, they began working on getting other people out of the home when Griffin came out holding a gun, and 'shots were fired,' according to the news release. Griffin was shot, and deputies began life-saving measures until Idaho Falls Ambulance arrived. Despite this effort, Griffin was declared dead at the scene. No deputies were injured in the shooting. The sheriff's office requested the East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force to respond, with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office leading the investigation. The EICTF, which includes law enforcement agencies across eastern Idaho, will assist in the investigation.
