Here's where millions of free eggs are headed in Texas following settlement

AUSTIN, Texas (KETK) — More than 7 million free eggs will soon be distributed to food banks across Texas following a settlement between the state and three major egg producers, the Attorney General's Office announced Tuesday. 'After securing 7 million eggs for the people of Texas, I am excited to announce that Texans will now have an opportunity to receive cartons of free eggs in communities across the state,' Attorney General Ken Paxton said. In June, a settlement was reached with Cal-Maine Foods, Centrum/Versova and Hickman's Egg Ranch following antitrust claims made by the Trump Administration's Department of Justice. These claims alleged that the companies conspired to inflate egg prices between 2022 and 2025. The Attorney General's office said an investigation then found that the companies coordinated their bids to manipulate daily egg price quotes. 'In one instance, a Hickman's executive urged executives at Cal-Maine and Versova to submit aggressive, repeated bids to push prices higher,' the attorney general's office said. 'All three companies then placed numerous, elevated bids, prompting Urner Barry to raise its price quotes. By manipulating this industry benchmark, the companies artificially inflated the cost of eggs paid by Texas consumers.' As part of the settlement, the companies agreed to donate 7 million eggs to Texas food banks and will have to pay $3.3 million to participating states. The following food banks are expected to receive free eggs as part of the settlement: 'I will continue to help our families put food on the table and do everything within my power to lower prices and help Texans who are struggling to make ends meet,' Paxton said.
