Hunter, the son of former US President Joe Biden, plans to launch his own meme cryptocurrency called LAPTOP on September 9, which he linked to a laptop that was at the center of a political scandal in 2020. This was reported on September 7 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources. "Hunter Biden <...> he is entering the cryptosphere with a new meme coin, <...> directed against his family's enemy, [the current head of the White House] Donald Trump," the publication says. The new token will be created on the Base network, developed by the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange. The total issue volume will be 1 billion coins. The founders of the project, including Hunter Biden, will receive 30% of this amount, while their share will be blocked for six months and then gradually unblocked over two years. Another 20% of tokens are planned to be distributed among users who lost funds after the launch of the TRUMP memcoin, as well as among Biden's subscribers and other project participants. The creators also provided for the possibility of destroying up to 30% of the total LAPTOP volume under certain conditions. Among them is the victory of the candidate from the Democratic Party in the US presidential election in 2028, the establishment of a new historical maximum by bitcoin and the excess of the full cost of the LAPTOP project over the TRUMP indicator. If the necessary conditions are not met, these tokens are supposed to be used for charitable purposes. According to the WSJ, the launch of the coin takes place against the background of the intensification of Hunter Biden's public activities and his statements in support of the cryptocurrency sphere. At the same time, experts note that memcoins usually do not have an independent fundamental value and can significantly lose value soon after entering the market. On August 15, ABC News learned that the Trump family's crypto business, World Liberty Trust, had received preliminary approval for a banking license. It was clarified that the corresponding step would allow the owners to attract larger investors and increase profits.
