Islamabad Police equipped with 50 electric vehicles to promote green policing

By Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday attended a ceremony marking the handover of 50 electric vehicles to the Islamabad Police to promote modern, safe and environment-friendly policing, the PM Office said. During the ceremony, according to the PMO, the prime minister handed over the keys of the electric vehicles to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and other relevant officials also attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the protection of citizens' lives and property was the government's foremost priority. He said the government was providing all possible resources to bring the Islamabad Police in line with the requirements of modern policing. The prime minister appreciated Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's performance in modernising the Islamabad Police and said the force should serve as a role model for police departments in other cities. He said the police in the federal capital was being equipped with modern technology, equipment and other necessary resources to ensure a safe environment for citizens. The prime minister said the provision of electric vehicles was aimed at promoting green policing and reducing the environmental impact of police operations. He added that the use of modern technology would further improve police performance and public services. During the ceremony, the Islamabad IGP briefed the prime minister on the newly established Capital Patrol force, formed to enhance security in the federal capital. The prime minister was told that the force had been established in line with his vision of a safe, smart and green capital. It would comprise 200 police personnel, with each patrol unit consisting of one male and one female officer. The force would also include motorcycle-riding police personnel to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling in different areas. All Capital Patrol personnel would be equipped with body cameras to improve transparency, monitoring and accountability in policing. The briefing further revealed that 50 electric vehicles had been provided for the Capital Patrol force. As the vehicles would run entirely on electricity, they were expected to significantly reduce fuel costs and have a positive impact on the environment. The prime minister was informed that the use of the electric vehicles would save approximately Rs34 million in fuel costs every month. The cost of each vehicle would reportedly be recovered through fuel savings in around 10.5 months. Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated the Islamabad Police's initiatives to use modern technology, promote green policing and improve public safety. He directed the authorities to take all necessary measures to make the modern policing system more effective.
