South Andaman District Administration Reviews Preparedness for Ganesh Puja Celebrations 2026

Sri Vijaya Puram | September 8, 2026 A meeting was held at the District Office to review preparedness and law and order arrangements for the Ganesh Puja Celebrations-2026 in South Andaman District, scheduled to commence on September 14, 2026, and conclude with the immersion of idols. Officials from various line departments, including Electricity, Fire, SVPMC, IP&T and other departments, along with the Presidents and Secretaries of Ganesh Puja Committees, attended the meeting. During the meeting, the organisers were directed to follow the prevailing norms and guidelines concerning fire safety, traffic arrangements, law and order clearances, electricity and cleanliness. Necessary directions were also issued to the Electricity, Fire Safety, Health, Police Department, Port Management Board and SVPMC to ensure the peaceful conduct of the festival. A Help-Desk/Counter is being set up at the District Control Room to facilitate organisers and participants in obtaining all relevant permissions through a single-window mechanism. The Pooja Committees were also issued directives for strict compliance during the celebrations. No individual under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances will be permitted to participate in the immersion procession. The committees have been directed to deploy adequate volunteers to monitor the procession and maintain discipline throughout. The committees have further been directed to ensure that the use of loudspeakers strictly ceases by 10 PM (2200 hours), in line with the directives of the Hon'ble Apex Court. Any violation will result in the immediate seizure of the music system and the vehicle concerned. The committees have also been instructed to permit only a limited number of persons per idol for immersion and ensure strict adherence to the directive. The arrangements and directions are aimed at ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Ganesh Puja celebrations and idol immersion in South Andaman District.
