Police: Albany man fled from police with 4-year-old in car

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT) — Albany Police said a 29-year-old man was arrested after a short chase through the city with his 4-year-old child inside the vehicle. Officers saw the vehicle commit several traffic violations around 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, near Second Street and Oak Street. Police said the driver also passed another vehicle on a one-way street and did not stop at an intersection before officers tried to pull him over. According to police, the vehicle sped away after officers turned on lights and sirens, then stopped near Livingston Avenue and Lark Street. Officers said the driver first refused orders to get out, then got out and tried to run before he was detained. Police identified the driver as Jeron M. Melton. Police said Melton's 4-year-old child was in the vehicle during the chase and was not hurt. Melton was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations. Police said the child was turned over to a family member who arrived at the scene. Melton was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Albany City Criminal Court at a later date.
