PKLI Rawalpindi Successfully Performs First Kidney Transplant

The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI) in Rawalpindi has successfully performed its first kidney transplant. Chairman of the Board of Directors Professor Dr Saeed Akhtar said the first transplant is always a major milestone for any institution. He added that the hospital is also launching an application through which patients will be able to submit their data from home. Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi along with a team of doctors, Dr Saeed Akhtar said the centre is now fully functional and has so far carried out two liver transplants and one kidney transplant. He also said PKLI provides up to 90% financial relief to 80% of patients, while treatment worth up to Rs50,000 is initially provided free of cost to deserving patients. Dr Saeed Akhtar said the institute has a team of international-standard experts and strong facilities. Referring to the PIMS hospital tragedy, he said PKLI has a complete and active fire safety system that is regularly monitored.
