SRMU demands implementation of 8-hour duty system at all level-crossing gates

The members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) demanded the Railways to immediately implement an 8-hour duty system at all level-crossing gates. Staging a protest led by SRMU divisional president C. Senthil Kumar, secretary J.M. Rafiq and others, they demanded solutions to the difficulties being experienced by the workers in the Engineering department. They urged to stop the practice of monitoring keymen/patrolmen through GPRS. The railways should stop the practice of dividing sections and closing SVV sections without giving due consideration to the welfare of the workers. They demanded to reduce the beat length of keymen working on double-line sections and urged the railways to provide all necessary basic amenities to the track maintainers at the earliest.
