Pakistan Railways has announced the launch of a new passenger train service between Sialkot and Rawalpindi from October 15, 2026, as part of a broader plan to revive suspended and improve passenger rail services across the country. According to Pakistan Railways, the decision has been taken on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has instructed railway authorities to complete all necessary arrangements for the new service. The minister said the Sialkot–Rawalpindi service will be named the Marka-i-Haq passenger train. The route previously had a local passenger service, which was discontinued decades ago. The Sialkot Passenger service on the section was closed in 1985. The move comes alongside the restoration of the Mohenjo Daro Express from September 15, with the government saying that other suspended trains will also be restored in phases. Railways authorities have yet to announce the detailed timetable, fares and intermediate stops for the new Sialkot–Rawalpindi service. Pakistan Railways provides official train timings and reservation information through its online platforms. Abbasi has also said that preparations for the long-delayed Main Line-1 (ML-1) upgrade have entered the final stage, with work scheduled to begin in January. The project is expected to significantly modernise the country's main railway corridor. Pakistan Railways reported record revenue of around Rs. 115 billion in fiscal year 2025-26, reflecting increased activity as authorities pursue service expansion and network modernisation. The Sialkot–Rawalpindi train is expected to provide passengers with a direct rail connection between two important cities in Punjab and improve travel options for commuters and other passengers along the route.
