Jamaat-e-Islami protests rising petrol prices, inflation

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has accused the privileged class of exploiting the public and described the government's petrol levy as a form of extortion tax. Addressing the workers during a Jamaat-e-Islami protest in Lahore against inflation, unemployment and rising petroleum prices, Hafiz Naeem demanded that the petrol levy be abolished and the price reduced to Rs225 per litre. Hafiz Naeem said the rulers were increasing the price of petrol as well as taxes separately, while the government was raising petrol prices on a daily basis. He said a sit-in outside the Chief Minister's House was a protest against both the federal and provincial governments. He warned that if the government tried to stop the protest, it would turn into a campaign to oust the government.
