Man and woman, male prisoner talking over the phone with his wife in prison visit room, woman is showing him a heart sign with hands.
I have just found out that my ex-boyfriend has been sent to prison.
We went out together for about two years, but it was always on and off as he kept getting into trouble with the Gardai.
We split up about four months ago when I found him stealing money from my wallet. I realised then that he must have been doing this for some time because it wasn't the first time I thought I'd lost money.
We had a huge row about it, and he eventually left without saying where he was going.
I know what he did to me was wrong and that he must have done something even worse to end up in prison, but I can't help it, I still love him.
Should I contact him and give him another chance?
JENNIFER SAYS : Loving someone isn't stupid, it makes you human.
Nor is it easy to simply switch off these feelings, so I can understand why you're finding this so difficult.
That said, love doesn't mean that you must accept being hurt or treated badly.
There's no hiding the fact that he stole from you, and maybe more than once. That's not just him making a small mistake, it's a serious breach of trust.
If a relationship is to survive, it needs honesty, respect and ongoing commitment and I am afraid I am seeing very little of that here.
People do change, but prison does not automatically change someone into a better person, sometimes it has the reverse effect.
Whether you wait for him, and for how long, is up to you.
However, please recognise that it's already been four months since he walked out, and the fact that you've heard nothing might actually be telling you something important.
I'M FED UP OF BEING SINGLE BUT GIRLS DON'T FIND ME ATTRACTIVE

Worried and upset man
I've always been the 'boy-friend' but never the 'boyfriend' and I'm tired of being single.
At 29 I'm the guy girls come to when they need a shoulder to cry on – and believe me, I'm happy to be available when needed.
When it comes to me having someone to talk to though, there's no one there.
People have said I'm too nice for my own good and so others will always take advantage of me but while I know I've been used, I'd rather that than be ignored.
I think the problem is, I'm shy around strangers so new people tend not to notice me so how do I change things?
JENNIFER SAYS : Just because you're currently single doesn't mean you're incapable of having a relationship because you clearly have rapport with lots of girls, just not the right one yet.
As girls find it easy to talk to you about their problems and concerns, it means they feel they can trust you and that's a very valuable characteristic.
I don't buy into the idea that someone can be TOO nice.
What on earth does that mean anyway – that you have to be nasty in order to be happily in love? I really don't think so.
I think it's only a question of time before you meet someone that's right for you, so meanwhile look at ways of building your confidence.
Find new activities, new hobbies and meet new people.
