Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has partially reopened to air traffic under stringent security restrictions following an 11-day closure reportedly linked to recent Houthi attacks, with commercial passenger operations yet to resume. Saudi aviation authorities have issued NOTAM A3650/26, requiring airlines to obtain prior approval before operating arrivals or departures at the airport. The restrictions also prohibit the use of Riyadh as an alternate airport during emergencies on security grounds. The limited reopening means the airport is not yet operating normally, with international airlines continuing to suspend or restrict services to the Saudi capital. Thousands of Flights Disrupted, Airlines Extend Suspensions The impact of the shutdown has extended beyond airport operations, disrupting airline schedules and forcing carriers to reassess their services to Saudi Arabia. Reuters reported widespread cancellations following the attacks, while aviation industry reports indicate that airlines have continued to keep services suspended even after the airport reopened. The flight-tracking data recorded approximately 8,250 flights as cancelled or non-operational during the 11-day disruption. It also states that at least six aircraft and airport facilities were damaged, while 22 airlines moved around 80 aircraft to safer airports.
