New resource officer starts at East Lansdowne schools

With Tuesday being the first day of school for many in East Lansdowne, students have the chance to meet their new school resource officer. East Lansdowne Police Department announced that Officer Alexia Williams is assigned to serve East Lansdowne Elementary School and Vision Academy Charter School. According to an information release from police: Williams will provide a consistent, visible, and approachable law-enforcement presence within both school communities. Her role extends well beyond traditional police services. She works closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and school staff to promote safety, build positive relationships, and help maintain welcoming learning environments where every child can succeed. The SRO position reflects the department's commitment to community-oriented policing, youth engagement, school safety and strong partnerships with educational institutions. Williams will provide a variety of services, including maintaining a visible and reassuring presence in and around both schools, building trust-based relationships with students and serving as a liaison between the schools and the police department. She will also assist school administrators with safety concerns and emergency planning. At the start and finish of the school day, Williams will assist with traffic congestion and driving concerns. The department hopes that through daily interactions and classroom visits, the officer will help students become familiar with law-enforcement officers in a positive and supportive setting. Williams will also works alongside school administrators to evaluate safety procedures, improve communication, support emergency preparedness, and address concerns affecting students, staff, parents and nearby residents. Her presence strengthens the police department's ability to respond immediately to school-related matters while encouraging early intervention and collaborative problem-solving. She is a fully empowered borough police officer.
