Urges healthcare professionals to uphold professional ethics, integrity and compassion throughout their career 1,449 HCPs awarded degrees at UHS 4th Convocation LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique was the chief guest at the 4th Convocation, of University of Health Sciences held on Tuesday July 21st 2026. A number of eminent medical personalities from various medical institutions from the city were also present on this occasion. They included former Provincial Health Minister and former UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, eminent gynecologist Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Khan, Chairperson of the UHS Board of Governors Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Wasim Afzal, former Director General Health Punjab Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, principals of leading public sector medical colleges, vice chancellors, and senior faculty members from medical, dental and nursing institutions. In all one thousand four hundred forty-nine healthcare professionals were awarded degrees on this occasion. After the award of degrees, Prof. Nadia Naseem Pro Vice Chancellor and senior most faculty member at UHS administered the oath to the recipients of degrees in various disciplines of medicine. Addressing the convocation, Khawaja Salman Rafique congratulated the graduates and gold medalists on their academic achievements and described the occasion as a celebration of their hard work, dedication and perseverance. He said UHS had established itself as a leading public sector health sciences university, providing academic leadership to more than two hundred affiliated institutions and playing a key role in strengthening medical education, research, curriculum reforms, faculty development and assessment systems in Pakistan. The minister highlighted the Punjab government's ongoing health sector reforms including programmes for pediatric cardiac surgery, kidney and liver transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, cochlear implants, corneal transplantation, cancer treatment, adult cardiac surgery, stroke management and free dialysis services across the province. He said new children's hospitals, cardiology institutes, burn units and medical colleges were also being established, while nursing education was being expanded to meet the growing healthcare needs of the province. He urged the graduates to uphold the highest standards of professional excellence, integrity, ethics and compassion throughout their careers, continue lifelong learning and always place patients' welfare above all else. He also appreciated the efforts of UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, faculty members, supervisors, examiners and the university administration for maintaining high standards in medical education and research.
