STRETCHER handling on steep ground was the focus of a full-day training exercise in the Lake District. Penrith Mountain Rescue Team carried out the session at The Rigg in Haweswater on Sunday, September 6. The Penrith Mountain Rescue Team training. (Image: PMRT) The team said: "The terrain included the wooded Rigg itself, negotiating the shelf down to the rock field below at various points, both lowering and hauling up the stretcher, and traversing the angled rock and stone fields above the water line. "The exercise, which included rigging up protection for the stretcher on steep or exposed sections, took good advantage of the unusually low level of the lake. "At the finish we couldn't resist heading round the nose of the Rigg and making our way across to what is usually the island!" The Penrith Mountain Rescue Team training. (Image: PMRT)
