Jason Statham's ‘Mutiny' Arrives On Streaming This Week

Jason Statham's new action thriller Mutiny arrives on streaming this week after the film quickly ran out of gas at the domestic box office. Directed by Jean-François Richet (Plane), Mutiny opened in theaters on Aug. 21. Statham (A Working Man) stars in the film as Cole Reed, a former London SCO19 Specialist Firearms officer and former Marine commando who works private security for Tibu Campallo (Ramon Tikaram), a Thai shipping tycoon. When Tibu is murdered, Cole is framed for his murder. As such, he sets out on a mission to avenge Tibu's death that lands him on a ship on international waters, where he discovers darker secrets than he anticipated. Rated R. Mutiny also stars Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller and Adrian Lester. Mutiny got off to a rough start in its first weekend at the box office Aug. 21-23, as it earned $7.7 million from 2,703 North American theaters for a No. 6 finish domestically. Mutiny's business dropped 64% for a $2.7 million take from the same number of venues on its second weekend Aug. 28-31, and skidded another 68% in its third weekend with $875,000 in ticket sales stateside from 1,380 venues. As of Monday, Mutiny has earned $15.2 million domestically and $6.6 million internationally for a running worldwide box office tally of $21.9 million. Mutiny had a production budget of $40 million before marketing costs, according to Variety. Mutiny marks the second film release starring Statham in 2026, and the second film from the actor this year to underperform. In January, the action star appeared in Shelter, which earned $12.8 million domestically and $36.5 million internationally for a global box office gross of $49.3 million. Shelter had a $50 million budget before marketing expenses, Variety reported. 'Mutiny' Arrives On PVOD On Tuesday Jason Statham's Mutiny will premiere on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Sept. 8, a new listing on Prime Video confirms. In addition to Prime Video, Mutiny will be available to purchase on PVOD on a variety of digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube Movies & TV. Since digital rental prices are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers should be able to rent Mutiny on PVOD for $19.99 for a 48-hour period. Critics were split in their reviews of Mutiny on Rotten Tomatoes, as the film earned a 50% 'rotten' score on the site's Tomatometer based on 114 reviews. Audiences, however, gave the film an 86% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 1,000-plus verified user ratings. Mutiny, starring Jason Statham, is currently playing in 1,380 theaters nationwide.
