A female news anchor working for a private television channel was found shot dead at her residence in Rawalpindi, with police taking her husband into custody as part of the investigation.
The victim was identified as Rabia Ahsan. According to police, she was found dead inside her house in the Gulshanabad area along Adiala Road.
Police said she had died from a gunshot wound, while investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to establish how the shooting occurred.
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi confirmed that Rabia's husband, Ahsan, was taken into custody following the incident.
In his initial statement to investigators, Ahsan claimed that the shooting was accidental and that he had not deliberately fired the weapon.
'I did not fire the shot intentionally; it went off accidentally,' Ahsan told police.
He also pointed out that Rabia's mother and sister were living in the same house and suggested that investigators question them about the incident.
'You can ask her sister and mother as they are also living in the house,' he told police.
Police are recording statements and examining the available evidence to determine the circumstances of Rabia's death. Her husband's account is also being assessed as part of the ongoing investigation.
