St. Cloud State Sports Report: Volleyball team goes 2-2 at Buccaneer Invitational

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The top-ranked St. Cloud State volleyball team went 2-2 at the Buccaneer Invitational that was held on Sept. 3-5. On Sept. 3, the Huskies defeated Lubbock Christian 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17). Senior outside hitter Shelby Kimm had 12 kills and senior outside hitter Abby Wachal had 11 kills. Junior setter Braya LaPlant had 37 set assists and four ace serves and junior defensive specialist Laurin Hamann had 15 digs for SCSU. On Sept. 4, the Huskies defeated Converse (S.C.), 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-22). Wachal had eight kills, junior outside hitter Carlie Willis had six kills and Kimm had five kills. Freshman setter Izzy Keaveny had 15 set assists and four ace serves. LaPlant had 18 set assists. Hamann had 20 digs and freshman defensive specialist Clara Keaveny had 10 digs for SCSU. Also on Sept. 4, Barry (Fla.) defeated SCSU, 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 26-28, 18-16). Willis had 19 kills, Wachal had 17 kills and Kimm had 16 kills and 17 digs. LaPlant had 47 set assists, 12 digs and three ace serves and Keaveny had 13 set assists for the Huskies. On Sept. 5, Lynn (Fla.) defeated the Huskies, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20). Wachal had 10 kills, Kimm had nine kills and Willis had eight kills. LaPlant had 20 set assists, Keaveny had nine set assists, Hamann had 13 digs and Keaveny had three ace serves for SCSU. The Huskies (6-2) play host to Augustana at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, and Wayne State at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Halenbeck Hall. ST. PAUL — Senior midfielder Owen Marshall scored off an assist from senior forward Oliver Corris in the 12th minute and freshman forward Jacob Nokken scored an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to lead the Tommies to the non-conference win on Sept. 2. Senior Moritz Krenc had two saves to get the shutout for the Tommies (3-1-2). Sophomore Erik Wilke stopped three of the five shots he faced for St. Cloud State (1-2). The Huskies play Jamestown at 7 p.m. Wednesday and the University of Illinois-Springfield at noon Saturday. Both matches are at Husky Stadium. The Huskies play the University of Mary at 5 p.m. Friday and Minot State at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both matches are at Husky Stadium.
