Tonda Eckert's side looked on course for a narrow - and rather fortunate - victory after Welington's stunning first-half strike put them ahead.
Saints had chances to double their advantage, with Leo Scienza hitting the post shortly after the hour mark, but Lincoln were much the better team.
Here is how we rated the Saints players...
Starters
Cyle Larin started up front for Saints (Image: PA)
Daniel Peretz - 7.
Slightly misjudged the depth of the cross for the equalising goal but otherwise very good. Made a few top saves, and his footwork was okay.
James Bree - 6.
A fairly steady performance from the full-back and put in a decent cross for Larin in the first half. However, passive when defending the equaliser.
Jack Stephens - 6.
Bit rough around the edges and struggled with the aerial battle in the first half, but by and large did what was required. Had the most defensive actions.
Keven Schlotterbeck - 8.
Superb performance from the German, who won most of his aerial duels and was key to the defence withstanding pressure for much of the game.
Welington - 6.
Probably the player who was struggling most at the point he scored a stupendous long-range strike. Goal rescues his rating, as otherwise it'd be 5.
Flynn Downes - 7.
Could have applied more pressure on the cross for the second time in a week, but otherwise a battling performance and made plenty of impact.
James Ward-Prowse - 7.
Very tidy in possession and picked up a lot of good positions around the box. Also got stuck in defensively in a very sharp midfield performance.
Kuryu Matsuki - 5.
Very limited performance from the winger. He was safe in possession but ultimately failed to create anything, and was anonymous in the second half.
Finn Azaz - 5.
Did not touch the ball in the opposition box once, and failed to create anything meaningful for Saints across 78 minutes. Difficult outing for him.
Leo Scienza - 6.
Easily the side's most threatening player until he was brought off after 63 minutes. So close to the second goal when his curling strike hit both posts.
Cyle Larin - 6.
Failed to hit the target with a couple of half chances but only realised how much he was missed when he came off with Scienza. Nothing special.
Substitutes
Sam Edozie returned to the fold from the bench (Image: PA)
Divin Mubama - 4.
Nightmare cameo from the young striker. Headed wide with his only half-chance and won just 20 per cent of his duels as he failed to hold the ball up.
Sam Edozie - 5.
Looked alright when he got onto the ball but did not manage to do enough for how long he was on the pitch. Resulted in an ill-fated Saints retreat.
Ryan Manning - 5.
Came on after 78 minutes with Saints 1-0 up and was out-stengthed by Chiedozie Ogebene for a big chance, and failed to get his team on the ball.
Lewis Dobbin - 4.
Touched the ball four times in 17 minutes of play as most of the game passed over his head. Difficult game state to come into but anonymous.
Nathan Wood - 4.
Was brought on to help defend the box and lost his man for the equalising goal a few minutes later. A bit of a disaster of a substitution all round.
