Players That Could Be Traded Away From the Saints This Season

The New Orleans Saints are hopefully going to have a better season than last year, and if that does happen, the team will be competing for a playoff spot. The NFC South is completely wide open, so even if the Saints get 8 or 9 wins, they could end up in the playoffs. Unless injuries continue and demolish the starting lineups, the Saints have a roster that can win a good amount of games, but looking for upgrades is always a good idea. Still, understanding players who can also become available to trade away will set this team up better for 2027. Its always difficult to care about both the present and future success of a team, but the Saints are in a really good situation to do that. They have veterans who can step in and make winning plays while also having young players who can do the same. Also, the Saints have depth options that will likely be long-term starters for New Orleans, and that's where we can put our focus. Looking at the roster, there are three spots where I believe a veteran could be pushed out by a younger player, resulting in a trade: LB, DT, and RG. Starting at linebacker, Pete Werner is likely going to be a starter next to Kaden Elliss, with Danny Stutsman also having a large role. Stutsman will likely come in when Elliss is either used as a pass rusher or when normal substitutions are made and Werner is taken out. But this staff thinks the world of Stutsman, and very quickly, he could become the primary starter over Werner. If that does happen, Werner could become a trade piece. Next is at DT, and this one is the most likely. Christen Miller has been great all preseason, and it will be very difficult to keep him off the field. The one player stopping that from happening is Davon Godchaux, who plays the exact spot on the defensive line as Miller. Still, Godchaux wasn't incredible last season, and there's a good chance Miller can outplay him fast. Godchaux could get some interest around the league as a potential starting nose tackle for teams. Last is Cesar Ruiz, and although it is unlikely to happen, it's not out of the question. Jeremiah Wright got better and better each preseason game, and he looked like a potential starter against the Dallas Cowboys. Ruiz was already a potential trade candidate last season, so the same could come true in 2026 if the Saints believe in Wright. Best Newest first Oldest first
