Group claiming to be nonpartisan is anything but

The Sept. 4 letter to the editor, 'Group to host nonpartisan forums in St. Mary's,' is a grossly misleading attempt by Andy Wilson to influence public opinion and gain political credibility for a local chapter of 'Indivisible,' a national organization promoting leftist politics. He writes 'Indivisible is not a political party, nor is it limited to or operating under the auspices of any political party. We are a firmly nonpartisan, grassroots organization.' Really? Was their anti-Trump 'No Kings' demonstration on March 28, 2026, at the corner of Route 5 and Hollywood Road in Leonardtown, nonpartisan? Or, what about the July 25, 2026, 'Ice Out Day of Outrage' protest at Leonardtown Square? In a March 17 interview, Wilson said, 'This is bigger than political disagreement. We're bringing together local residents from all walks of life who recognize that this administration has defied our courts, killed American citizens, disappeared people off the streets, started wars and slashed our services — all while orchestrating a massive giveaway to their billionaire allies. We're not going to stand by and watch it happen – we're pushing back.' So much for Wilson's claims to be nonpartisan. Wilson stated, 'More than anything, we care about walking arm in arm with our fellow citizens.' This is the 'plain folks' propaganda technique of presenting the appearance of being ordinary, relatable, everyday people to build false trust. Wilson wrote, 'Communication and cooperation are vital cornerstones of our country, and we want to do everything we can to promote both here in our county. That's why we're organizing a local candidate forum. We want the public to have as many opportunities as possible to learn about the candidates running for local office.' This is not the real reason for the two forums. It is part of the game plan for the group to issue endorsements of local candidates in the general election. The forums serve to provide the pretense of objectivity. The 'INDIVISIBLE – 2026 Endorsement Guide' is most interesting reading. Should any Republican candidates participate in these forums, they will have become 'useful idiots.' In summary, Wilson wrote, 'At its core, that is what we're about: standing together as one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'
