Letter: Alaska needs another steady voice in the storm

Some of us remember the 1964 earthquake and the calming, steady voice of KENI (650 AM) radio reporter Genie Chance, who for nearly 60 straight hours broadcast vital information from Anchorage's Public Safety Building over KENI radio. Emergency crews, the military, law enforcement officials and others noted that her continuous reports were critical to the post-earthquake response and coordination efforts. Today, after an earthquake, storm or power outage, it seems impossible to receive any meaningful radio status reports. We need another Genie Chance! — Frank E.
