Letter: Why are we taking a chance with the lake project?

Image
By Tom and Sue Fergen / Mitchell To the Editor: We have had the privilege of living around Lake Mitchell for 35 years — and I love it ... Why drain the lake? We hope and pray that they do not cut a hole in the concrete dam, nor put a hole through the earthen dam. Why do we want to take a chance on something when we are not 100% sure that this is the best approach? We used hydraulic dredging 40 years ago and alum treatments after that; why wouldn't that method work today? With the method currently on the table, we have so many uncertainties. Will we lose the lake as we have it today? How many years will we lose the lake for? At least 3–4 years, maybe more. Why take a chance? Algae will always be an occurring problem because of Firesteel Creek. Let us have the ability to see things as they truly are. Tom and Sue Fergen Mitchell
