Regarding Andrew Langer's op-ed 'What JD Vance Gets Wrong About Hamilton' (Aug. 28): Mr. Langer argues that Alexander Hamilton's tariffs 'were generally moderate and principally intended to raise revenue without suppressing imports—a far cry from President Trump's sweeping protectionism.' This is a misread of Hamiltonianism. An instructive book by Carson Holloway, 'Hamilton versus Jefferson in the Washington Administration,' brilliantly outlines Hamilton's policies. A reading of this book makes clear that Mr. Trump's policy parallels that of the Founding Father.
