Secretary for Transport and Public Works visits local associations to gather opinions for 2027 Policy Address

The Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr Tam Vai Man, meets with representatives of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, to garner their opinions and suggestions regarding the 2027 Policy Address in respect of the transport and public works portfolio. The Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr Tam Vai Man, said urban renewal was a vital undertaking for enhancing residents' well-being and a key measure for improving the city's functionality. Mr Tam recently led senior officials from several departments under his policy portfolio on a series of visits to local associations, to gather opinions and suggestions regarding the formulation of the Policy Address for the Year 2027 in respect of the transport and public works portfolio. During those meetings, Mr Tam stressed that in addition to the redevelopment of old buildings and regeneration of old neighbourhoods, efforts should be advanced comprehensively across various areas, including supporting legislation and public facilities, he said. The associations Mr Tam met included the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the Macao Chamber of Commerce, the Macao Institution of People's Alliance, the Macau Economic and Livelihood Alliance, the Chinese Educators' Association of Macau, the Macao Youth Federation, the Women's General Association of Macau, the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, and the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau. Representatives from the associations raised key concerns, including the promotion of urban renewal projects, the development of an integrated transport system, enhancement of the public transport network, smart transportation, the creation of an eco-friendly and liveable city, environmental planning and ecological conservation, promotion of building maintenance, public housing policy, land use, improvement of the Macao Light Rapid Transit (LRT) network, optimisation of boundary-crossing facilities, urban revitalisation of old districts, improvement of pedestrian networks, expansion of sports facilities, and enhancement of community facilities in New Urban Area A. Secretary Tam expressed his gratitude to the associations for their continued interest in, and support for, policy initiatives in the transport and public works sector. He acknowledged the role these groups play as effective bridges of communication between the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government and the public. By accurately gauging public sentiment and consistently providing valuable advice and recommendations to the Government, these organisations helped ensure that policy planning in the sector was closely aligned with practical needs and effectively met community expectations, Mr Tam noted. He emphasised that departments under his policy portfolio would spare no effort in carrying out their duties, thereby contributing to the vision of creating a 'Blissful Macao'. During those meetings, Mr Tam mentioned the Government is constructing temporary car parks in several districts, including dedicated temporary lorry parks, and implementing parking concession schemes to alleviate parking pressure and reduce illegal parking. With regard to New Urban Area A, the relevant government departments are conducting comprehensive planning, with plans to construct running tracks, cycling paths and other recreational facilities, as well as establish a bus terminus on Lot B5 in the New Urban Area A. Mr Tam emphasised that public departments within the transport and public works sector would continue to enhance operational efficiency and service quality, working with dedication and vitality to help drive Macao's high-quality development.
