Eliot Maxwell Greenleaf Hilo Response to recent letter about barking dogs problem Regarding the letter to the editor by John Powers on Aug. 23: I moved to Fern Forest about three years ago. While I have been living here, my neighbors' dogs have been barking and howling from early morning until evening. One of the dogs is large, and its barking and howling reverberate through the jungle. I looked up the barking dog regulations, and per Animal Control, I should contact the owner. I did, and the owner told me he could not control his dogs' barking. After months of barking and being woken up in the early morning, I called Animal Control again. They said they would have an officer contact the owner. I never heard back, and the dogs continue to bark. I spoke with several of my neighbors, and they said the barking was troublesome but added that no one would do anything about it. Maybe it was me, so I had my wife call Animal Control. She told them we talked to the owner and had sent him a certified letter regarding the barking. The officer promised to send someone out to investigate. Weeks later, no response from Animal Control, and the dogs continue to terrorize me. Scott Bringman Mountain View
