Townsend: On Labor Day weekend, we celebrate all we gained from unions

This weekend, we mark Labor Day as a celebration of unions and the American worker. We honor those who helped shape workers' rights. These are rights we sometimes take for granted today: paid time off, child labor laws, overtime pay, safety and security on the job, and weekends, to name a few. These are rights workers before us fought for, bled for and died for. The theme for this year's Dubuque parade is 'Unions Building a Brighter Future for Working People.'
