Lansing Christian School controversy propels creation of new school

And just like that, summer has come to an end. I'll write an abbreviated note this week, as many folks are hopefully out of town or spending time with family and friends and enjoying a break from the rain this weekend. I wanted to draw your attention to a popular story this week from education reporter Karly Graham. She spent several weeks this summer talking to parents and students who were disgruntled with Lansing Christian School over issues that included how diversity and equity were being taught in the school. The school shut down for a period of days in April over protests. What resulted was an effort to start a new school. Her story explains how Hope Christian School was organized, and that the effort has drawn more than 100 students, many likely from Lansing Christian, where enrollment dropped from more than 500 last year to more than 300 this year. That's as specific as a Lansing Christian School official would be. It's a well-written story you can't get anywhere else, and an example of our efforts to tell unique stories for subscribers.
