On September 7th, Mr. Mai Van Tan, Director of the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, announced that a notice had been issued regarding the collection of public opinions on the draft general planning of the city until 2050, with a vision to 2075; which includes a proposal to relocate the administrative center to Nga Bay (formerly Hau Giang province). Accordingly, the public consultation process was conducted simultaneously in 103 communes and wards in the area, and the results were also published on the Can Tho City electronic information portal and the website of the Department of Construction. The Can Tho authorities are organizing a public consultation on the city's master plan until September 16, 2026. The organizational structure is in accordance with the law on implementing democracy at the grassroots level. Planning drawings are displayed at the People's Committee offices for citizens to refer to. The city will provide documents via QR code (including the general planning report, the draft plan, and the opinion form). The deadline for citizens to submit their opinions is September 16, 2026. After that, the People's Committees of communes and wards will compile and send the results before September 19, 2026. According to the Can Tho City Department of Construction, the general planning is a guideline for organizing the city's spatial development. This is a very important issue, related to future management and investment, and will affect the development of people living, studying, and working in the city. Therefore, the department hopes that citizens will take the time to study the document and contribute their opinions. Regarding the proposal to relocate the administrative center to Nga Bay (formerly Hau Giang province), the Can Tho City Department of Construction added that during the general planning process, the consulting organization had to study many options for organizing urban space, functional areas, and the system of centers in order to find the most suitable option for the city's long-term development. These are research options for public consultation; no option has been selected yet. According to the procedure, after gathering opinions from the public, agencies, organizations, and experts, the Department of Construction of Can Tho City will synthesize, research, and fully explain the feedback received; then finalize the dossier, submit it for appraisal, and present it to the competent authority for approval. Only when the competent authority approves the plan will the directions outlined in the project have legal validity for implementation.
