School Timings in Lahore bring New Traffic Arrangements on major roads

LAHORE – Lahore traffic authorities have introduced additional traffic management measures on the city's major roads to ensure a flow of vehicles during school opening and closing hours and reduce difficulties faced by commuters. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore has directed traffic circle officers to remain physically present in the field during peak school hours. The move is aimed at ensuring immediate traffic management and preventing congestion on roads that experience heavy movement of students, parents and school transport. Traffic wardens have been deployed outside more than 200 schools located along busy and important roads. In addition, 100 extra Traffic Response Units and patrolling officers have been assigned to various high-traffic routes across Lahore. The deployment covers several major roads, including Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Iqbal Town Road, Wahdat Road, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road and Canal Road. These routes are expected to receive additional attention during school arrival and departure times because of increased traffic activity. CTO has also instructed circle officers to maintain coordination with school and college administrations. Officials have been directed to hold meetings with the management of educational institutions to discuss traffic-related issues and improve arrangements around school premises. Traffic authorities have ordered action against double-lane parking, roadside pushcarts and stalls outside schools and colleges when these activities obstruct the movement of vehicles. The measures are intended to keep entry and exit points clear and prevent unnecessary bottlenecks during peak hours. The in-charge of the Education Unit has been directed to restart the Traffic Scouts Programme, which is aimed at promoting traffic awareness and discipline among students. The in-charge of Driving Schools has also been asked to develop a scooter training programme as part of the traffic safety and training initiatives. The deployment and coordination measures are intended to improve traffic management around educational institutions while making school-time travel safer and more convenient for students, parents and other road users.
