The Supreme Court is expected to decide this week whether President Donald Trump can restrict mail-in voting for the midterm elections through new U.S. Postal Service rules. Trump claims the new rules will prevent noncitizens from voting. Opponents say it will disenfranchise large numbers of properly registered voters. Drew Sheneman leads this week's editorial cartoon gallery with a voter confronting a menacing mailbox preparing to devour his ballot. David Horsey draws Trump directing mail-in ballots to be deposited in a USPS garbage truck. Bill Bramhall reproduces the FBI photograph of a bathroom at Mar-a-Lago, this time with boxes filled with ballots instead of White House files. Nick Anderson's Republican elephant wraps chains around a ballot box, saying, 'We're just trying to secure elections.' Meanwhile, Trump's efforts to remake Washington, D.C., continued. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said construction of a 'triumphal arch' near Arlington National Cemetery would begin in two weeks, before final approvals. Bramhall depicts an Iranian mullah on top of the arch, symbolizing the Islamic republic's ability to withstand six months of war with the United States and Israel. Jack Ohman's president takes a wrecking ball to American democracy, while Bramhall's Trump digs a deeper hole in his approval rating by pressing forward with construction of a White House ballroom. Editorial cartoonists also commented on the resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll over tensions springing from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's firing of generals responsible for modernizing the Army; chatter about Trump's renaming of Lake Ontario; data center politics; and the death of farmer, writer and environmental activist Wendell Berry. Cartoons were drawn by Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Phil Hands, David Horsey, Pedro X. Molina, Jack Ohman, Joel Pett, Drew Sheneman and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Steve Breen, Mike Luckovich and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
