Yellow tickets and a parking crunch? Leave the car at home

Re: Ottawa is now giving out yellow parking tickets. That doesn't fix our parking crunch I acknowledge that parking and traffic are bigger problems today than they were when I retired 12 years ago. However, I am very surprised that Brigitte Pellerin did not raise other alternatives for getting to work. When I began working downtown, I could park near City Centre or LeBreton Flats for free, but I'd have to walk a few kilometres to work. When that was gone, I took the bus, usually leaving early (6 a.m.) and heading home early (3 p.m.). It was fast and I enjoyed relaxing, socializing or reading while on the bus. My last 15 years, I rode my bike to work eight months of the year, rain or shine. That was great. With e-bikes and scooters, that is now even easier. Carpooling is another option. Tougher today, yes, but where there is a will there is a way. Bob McRae, Aylmer Dear editor, I am the stepson of Robert Reford, former editorial writer for the Ottawa Citizen, and received all my secondary schooling in Ontario. I have resided for over 40 years in northern Vermont, about 20 miles from the Quebec border. Although I know first hand the rivalry between our nations and chose to come home to the land of my birth, I have a deep love of Canada and Canadians. Bravo to Canada for standing up to a cowardly, narcissistic, bullying traitor as our own spineless government has not. James A. Hudson, Glover, Vt.
